This is one of those happy accidents. Technically speaking, its an Empire Rye. But its decidedly different than Van Brunt’s standard Empire offering. It all started with a little leftovers in a bottling tank at the end of the work day. They had about 8 cases left in the tank. When they came in the next day, they needed to proof it up a little to make it the correct proof. This is when the accident happened. They grabbed some overproof whiskey from the nearest barrel got it back to 42%. Unfortunately, they later realized that they proofed up the rye with their 5 year old Single Malt! But dont let its origins fool you. This is a truly remarkable whiskey. Its almost crazy how just 2% Single Malt affected the flavor. Nose: Impressive and charming nose.

Palate: A very pleasant, rich and smooth taste in the mouth. Lovely texture.

Van Brunt Stillhouse is a New York State Farm Distillery in the heart of Red Hook Brooklyn. While the idea of a farm distillery in a big city seems somewhat ironic, we take our state farm license class to heart and think of ourselves as an extension Thor Oeschner’s organic farm near Ithaca, the primary source of our grain. We believe in the strength and value of local economies.
