Hailing from the now-closed Uitvlugt distillery in Guyana, which operated between the late 1700s and 2000, this impressive expression was produced in the distillery’s famed double wooden pot still in 1990. Matured for 31 years in a single ex-rum cask, a total of 161 bottles were released in 2022.

Distillery Information

Uitvlugt (pronounced eye-flut) is a village in Guyana, based on the west bank of the Demerara River, however the name is Dutch. Back in the 17th century most sugar cane plantations produced their own rum. The Dutch-owned Uitvlugt Distillery was established around 1750, housing double wooden pot stills which produced a heavy style rum. However, in 1975 the government began privatising sugar plantations and distilleries, amalgamating them into one large distillery owned by the Guyana Liquor Corporation, and this sadly saw the close of Uitvglut in 2000. The only remaining distillery in Guyana is the acclaimed Diamond Distillery, which acquired the stills from Uitvlugt.
