The Ojai Vineyard was founded by Santa Barbara wine pioneer Adam Tolmach. Adams winemaking adventure began at UC Daviss Department of Viticulture and Enology. After graduating, Adam settled down on a piece of land in Ojai to farm sweet corn and melons. But soon after he found his way back to enology, working at Zaca Mesa Winery. This is where Adam met many of his winemaking contemporaries, including Jim Clendenen. The two would eventually chart their own path to stardom and create Au Bon Climat. At the same time, Adam began his own project by planting vines on his Ojai property and by 1983 had produced the very first bottling of The Ojai Vineyard. Fast forward four decades, The Ojai Vineyard remains independently owned and has been lauded as a model for natural winemaking in the Central Coast of California.
