Long ago, a group of Grenadian fishermen drifted off course and found themselves marooned at low tide on an unchartered, unknown bay. They spotted smoke in the distance, and as they approached, the chimnies of a distillery appeared like some kind of mirage! With the scent of molasses floating on the breeze, the fishermen wandered in, but there was not a soul in sight, it seemed that this Secret Grenadian Distillery was operated by real no foolin’ magic. Instead of running, the fishermen loaded up their boat with casks of delicious rum, leaving behind their fresh catch, for whichever spirits had blessed them that day.

Secret Grenadian Distillery 21 Year Old 1998 (Private Label) | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Stroopwaffles, roasty mocha, and those wafer cigars filled with praline. Warm leather, feisty oak char, roasted macadamia nuts, plus a touch of underripe pineapple and buttered corn.

Palate: That buttery toffee comes into its element on the palate, bolstered by rich, tannic oak, fragrant, herbal tobacco, and caramelised exotic fruits. Drying leather carries through too, balanced by silky vanilla creme brulee.

Finish: A gloriously sweet array of poached plum and charred pineapple, countered by drying, woody spice, resinous oak, and hints of warming hickory. The balance of sweetness and spice here is really exceptional.

Distillery Information

Master of Malt was founded in 1985 as a retailer and bottler of whisky and other fine spirits. Today, we bottle new whiskies all the time, and our policy is simple: we only ever put our name on anything that makes us go Wow! Thats all there is to it! Being extremely picky, we regularly try dozens of cask samples before we find one were willing to bottle (trying glass after glass of fine Scotch whisky is harder than it sounds!). We also dearly love to bottle unusual whiskies too. When it comes to bottling, we like to leave things unadulterated. We never add caramel colouring to our whiskies, and we prefer to leave them at natural cask strength. In the rare occasion when we lower the bottling strength we never, ever use chill-filtration, as we believe this affects the flavour of good spirit, and we cant have that! We also offer 3cl whisky samples of as many of our own bottlings as possible, to give you the opportunity to try before you buy.
