A beautiful vintage French brandy here from Pintail, distilled back in 1993 and bottled 27 years later at 47.5% ABV. The label is a beautiful recreation of the original from 1931. A pintail is a species of duck, slightly bigger than a mallard. “How big is a mallard?” you ask. Which is a ridiculous question.

Nose: Dark fruits, damson jam, hint of cocoa.

Palate: Dark preserved fruits, pumpernickel bread, malt loaf, ripe dark plums, coffee.

Finish: Long, assertive and powerful. Black grape skins and balanced acidity.

Distillery Information

Pintali was first bottled in 1931 as Matthew Gloag & Sons house brand of Dry Sherry and soon won international awards for its superior quality. Featured in Tatler magazine in 1935 You cannot be wrong in offering a glass of Pintail to your guest for the little 11 oclock and before or after meals. It was regularly advertised in Matthew Gloag & Sons Christmas brochure alongside the increasingly popular Famous Grouse brand of Scotch Whisky as part of their Case de Luxe offering. Unfortunately, the downturn in Sherry consumption in the latter half of the 20th century signalled the end for the brand until The Whisky Cellar acquired the rights in 2021, lining it up once again with its old Brig O Perth stablemate.
