This particular Barrel Reserve Gin was rested in Cabernet Sauvignon casks from the Rudd Oakville Estate in Napa Valley for 6 – 7 months before being bottled. The wine casks have had plenty of influence on the gin, imparting plenty of berry notes, though the fantastic selection of botanicals still shine through wonderfully.

No. 209 Barrel Reserve Gin – Cabernet Sauvignon Cask Finish | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: The nose possesses toffee and caramel sweetness with hints of spice.

Palate: The first sip is sweet and full with a hint of citrus, spice and subtle red wine notes. Mid-palate shows the only true remnants of gin with juniper, cardamom and rose-like coriander resting in the background.

Finish: The finish is quite long, sweet and surprisingly spice-filled with cassia, clove, ginger and black pepper. At the very end there are chocolate and oak notes.

Besides putting us in the shadow of AT&T Park, home of the 2014 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, the natural cooling properties of 13 feet of San Francisco Bay water beneath the pier keeps the air temperature in the distillery perfect for distilling year-round.
