Fabelhaft means fabulous in German, and this gin sees a fab collab between Portuguese winemaker Dirk Niepoort and Hamburg-based wine merchant Dirk Delventhal. An array of nine botanicals are picked in Niepoort’s vineyards in Portugal’s Douro Valley, including the Mediterranean cistus flower. The botanicals are sent to Germany, where they’re macerated for several days and individually distilled before being blended, with the extra addition of some of the cistus macerated spirit. A superbly fragrant, zesty, and floral expression, ideal splashed in tonic or lemonade.

Fabelhaft Gin | 500ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Complex layers of citrus and spice, oily juniper, and elegant florals.

Palate: Cardamom and green herbs.

Finish: A long and lingering finish.

Distillery Information

Niepoort is a historic, family-owned producer of Port and table wines in the Douro Valley, in northern Portugal. It was founded by Dutch immigrants in 1842, and is now known for its distinctively packaged and energetically marketed wines. Historically, Niepoort was known for its Colheita ports, but as fashions have changed, emphasis has been placed on the Vintage Port, which is often among the finest from the region. Niepoort’s portfolio covers all styles of Port, including tawny, LBV and white Port, and even makes several versions of some styles with varying emphasis on tradition and modernity.
