Distillery Information

SakOne was founded in 1992 by a group of American and Japanese sak enthusiasts who had a vision to produce world-class sak in the U.S. Although traditionally made in Japan, they believed that premium (ginjo) grade sak could be produced on American soil and in a style targeted to American taste buds. With water as one of saks most critical ingredients, a lush aquifer on the east slope of Oregons Coast Range was identified as an ideal water source for its purity. And so the nations foremost premium sak brewery was built in Forest Grove in 1997. Two decades later, with the popularity of premium sak continuing to rise in the U.S., SakOne is the nations fastest-growing craft sak brewery and leading importer of fine Japanese sak. Led by an impressive array of wine industry veterans, SakOne now distributes its sak in all 50 states, Canada, the Caribbean and South America. Its growing staff of 26 includes Sak Master Greg Lorenz, who trained extensively in Japan. We have doubled the number of brands that we craft and import in the past five years and our sales growth in the U.S. continues to exceed our expectations, says SakOne CEO and President Steve Vuylsteke.
